A LETTER FROM DR. KEVIN JENKINS
Dec. 5, 2023
Dear DCS Families, Faculty, and Staff,
Our Foundational Years
As you know, this school year marks a significant milestone at Dunwoody Christian School (DCS) – five fantastic years since DCS first opened its doors to 11 students in 2018 on the campus of Dunwoody Community Church. During our foundational years there, DCS grew not only in numbers of students and grade levels, but God blessed our school richly with incredible teachers and staff, exceptional classroom resources, and a strong community among our families. Knowing we would quickly outgrow that first campus location; our Board of Directors and school community prayed faithfully and sought a new home for our expanding school.
Staying the Course
In summer 2021, God was faithful and answered our prayers. Dunwoody Baptist Church (DBC) opened their campus and their hearts to DCS. When we opened our doors in Fall 2021 to grades K – 5th, DCS welcomed new teachers and staff including Principal Wanamaker, and Dr. LeMay as Head of School. Since then, DCS has faithfully continued to heed God’s calling to stay the course, never waver from our Christ-centered foundations, continue providing exceptional educational experiences, and to pray faithfully as we look ahead to serve our students.
We Hear You
As we opened our middle school program in 2022, welcomed Principal Fan, and won “Best of Perimeter” awards for Best K-12 Private School, Best Aftercare Program, and Best Teacher, it was clear that the community was also excited about DCS. As I have come onboard this year as your Head of School, I have met many of you and have heard your feedback. You are excited about DCS, but you are concerned about how DCS will thrive in our current facilities. You are asking how we can improve middle school facilities and athletic programs and also how we can welcome more students so there may be more than one classroom per grade. You want to know how DCS will grow into high school – all while keeping tuition affordable, employing exceptional teachers, and providing stellar academics and extracurricular programs to students.
Faithful Prayers
From the inception of our school, the DCS Board of Directors, our faculty and staff, and you – our wonderful families – have faithfully prayed and relied on God to provide all that we needed, including a permanent campus. Since the foundation of DCS, it seemed impossible to imagine a permanent location in Dunwoody willing to accommodate a small start-up school, but large enough to allow DCS to grow into a well-established, highly-respected covenant Christian school that will rival some of the most established, successful private schools in Georgia. But as we have seen over these past five-and-a-half years, God continues to bless this school, His school. And as we also know, nothing is impossible with God.
Your Prayers Answered
Over the last year, the DCS Board of Directors and I began talking with leaders at First Baptist Church of Atlanta (FBA) about the desire God put on their hearts to have a K-12 covenant Christian school on their campus. Recognizing the alignment between FBA and DCS in both mission and vision, DCS and FBA leadership came to an agreement that FBA will adopt DCS and we will relocate to their campus in Dunwoody, GA. Starting with the 2024-2025 school year, DCS will be located at 4400 N. Peachtree Rd.
While change can lead to questions and possibly a feeling of uncertainty, change also means new opportunities and exciting times ahead for our wonderful school. Together with FBA, we will have an opportunity to design even better educational experiences for your children, continue hiring the best Christian teachers, open additional classrooms in each grade, provide the best classroom facilities and athletic programs, and plan strategically to add a high school in the coming years. I am honored to be a part of this exciting moment in the history of Dunwoody Christian School, and trust that you will join me in praying for God’s continued blessings on this school and her people.
Dunwoody Christian School was founded to serve God, by Christian men and women seeking to fulfill the Great Commission, while at the same time providing excellent educational opportunities to families. I believe the exponential growth of this school is a result of God honoring that commitment, and I pledge to you that that commitment will continue. I value your commitment as parents to partner with us in your child’s spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical growth. That partnership, with God’s blessing, will help them to become the men and women He designed them to be.
Yours in Christ,
Kevin Jenkins, EdD
Head of School
